On Tuesday October 7th, the College of Business at Western Carolina University held a symposium devoted to understanding the root causes of the current financial crisis; the implications of the bailout plan and possible future outcomes, both global and individual. Above, you can access the entire presentation or, listed below, are the four individual components.
Part One: Origins
Dr. William (Tilt) Thompkins traces the origins of the current crisis - from its beginnings in the sub-prime housing market to its final, fateful fruiition in the "weapons of financial mass destruction", the collateralized debt obligation.
Part Two: The Bailout
Professor Louis Buck discusses the nature, size and implications of the proposed $700 billion bailout plan. Will the plan work? Will moral hazard be an issue? What does it all really mean?
Part Three: The Future
Dean Ron Johnson draws on his years of experience at the IMF to place the current crisis in proper historical persperctive and to forecast probable future outcomes.
Part Four: What Should I Do?
Professor Steve Henson brings it all down to the most critical level of all - that of the individual. What can we do, as individuals, to protect ourselves against the current crisis and the coming financial storms? |
