Other GIS Resources: The Economic Indicator Mapping Project is designed to enhance the economic competitiveness of regional development in both the mid and long-term by aggregating, and developing where needed, analysis and 10-year projections of the state of population and economic structure for the 28 counties of western North Carolina and surrounding areas. Included as elements are: population and labor force demographics, industrial and occupational employment, and economic activity. The elements will be available on a regional basis; a county-by-county basis; and, where possible, on a Zip Code or Census Tract basis. Economic Indicators Demographic Indicators

GIS Tutorial
One of the distinctive features of the WNC Pulse is the interactive GIS ("geographic information system") component. This map allows users to sort and filter information through various visual layers. For example, one could sort the map to view the county by median income and then further sort to see businesses located within the various income areas. Our service is still in beta-testing mode and our goal is to make the front end or user interface as intuitive as possible.
In the interim, we recommend you download and read our GIS Tutorial prior to using this feature.
